GTD Sorting Pass 1
June 4, 2006Read moreIt’s the second day (or rather, half-day) of trying out GTD. I went through the big pile of “stuff” from yesterday and converted it into actual reference material! Some of this stuff I’d been carrying around for years, never quite sure how to save it so I could find it again. The GTD suggestion of creating general file system, simply alphabetized, was a revelation. In hindsight, it seems quite obvious.
The experience was not unlike surfing the web all day, except I was surfing my own stuff. Tagging and bookmarking proceeded from that. Cool!
Random thoughts follow.

GTD Collecting Weekend
June 3, 2006Read moreI’m taking my first stab at GTD this weekend, moving vast piles of junk onto my in-basket and surrounds! It’s not as big a pile as I thought, though there are things around the office that are getting added as “action sheets” to the in-basket.
Here’s what my main workspace looks like at the moment just before I started moving piles.
Ugh!
I’m off to the 24-hour Super Walmart to get a bunch of file folders and some cheap copy paper, and then I’ll be set for the next phase: Processing. Looking forward to it!
I also set up my ancient Brother PT-1500PC label printer. I’ve had it for years, and I’m pleased that David Allen advocates the use of one. Whee!

Stupid Spammers: The Battle Continues
June 2, 2006Read moreAfter installing the pre-release version of Bad Behavior Alpha 3, I have seen the amount of spam blocked by Spam Karma 2 drop from about 3000 to 5. Wow.
I have also noticed that the website seems to have sped back up…was it possible that all that spam hammering was slowing thing down?
UPDATE June 03: A temporary lull: “There have been 1807 comment spams caught since the last digest report 1 day ago.”
UPDATE June 04: 1307 comment spams (karma above -20)
UPDATE June 05: 214 comment spams (karma about -20)
However, how many comments with karma BELOW -20? Not sure.

Purpose
June 2, 2006Read moreI am constantly wondering what the heck it is I’m doing. I try new variations on my “career path”, doing my best to evaluate what seems to work and what doesn’t. As a net result, I haven’t experienced “success”; if anything, my career history resembles a 20-year long game of Jenga, with plenty of wipeouts and a nice big pile of blocks to play in.

The Fragility of RSS Statistics
June 1, 2006Read moreApparently, one of the RSS agregators that Feedburner counts to calculate syndication stats added 50,000 bogus subscribers to everyone. It was fun while it lasted :-)
