  • Podcast Interview by The Glass is Too Big

    June 13, 2006

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure talking with J Wynia for his podcast The Glass is Too Big. We rambled on for a good two hours, struggling through four Skype disconnects. The audio quality is surprisingly good, though I tend to fade in and out like a drunken bumblebee (suddenly, I have a desire to add an outboard mixer and compressor stage). I think the disconnects were due to a background software update that happened to start, undetected, toward the end of the podcast.

J has extracted a 24-minute chunk of our conversation, and it’s surprisingly interesting! I remember coming away from the interview thinking that I wish I’d had all the Toastmasters and communications background that J did, because he has a great podcast voice. I just snicker a lot and garble my grammar! But still, you can for the first time hear what my voice sounds like, and maybe you’ll hear it next time you read the blog. You can also tell me if that’s how you imagined my voice…it sounds really constricted and squashed to me. I probably need to learn how to open my mouth wider when I talk, or something.

Thanks J! I had a great time, and came away quite inspired!

  • Cancellations Galore

    June 13, 2006

This morning, I opened up my daily folder and blinked at the contents. A few bills. A statement from the bank. Some year old postcards from the vet. A few pieces of paper with some names on them. Fascinating. My Tickler File had delivered unto me a small mystery to unravel: what the heck was I thinking yesterday?

The theme, it turns out, was purging services that I don’t want to pay for anymore: Comcast Cable TV, Tivo, Verizon Wireless, and a local bank. They cost too much for what I get out of them.

  • GTD Processing

    June 12, 2006

I finally got my act together and finished processing my inbox, which didn’t take as long as I thought it would. Here’s what’s I’ve gotten through so far, as far as process.

  • Down for Maintenance

    June 12, 2006

I’m upgrading to WordPress 2.0.3 from 1.5.2. Whee! Hopefully this goes smoothly. Site will be down until tomorrow, and if everything goes right it will look exactly the same. Geeky notes follow…nothing to see here.

UPDATE: I think everything is working. No theme modifications required that I can tell. The conversion might have even gone faster if I’d known how mod_rewrite really worked.

  • Exercise your way to Doing Laundry

    June 12, 2006

Last week I started to exercise regularly, just starting out with some crunches, pushups, and those arm curling things. I picked an arbitrarily small set of guidelines: Stretch! Push the muscles until I feel them, cuz the discomfort is SUPPOSED to be there! If I’m not constantly aware of my muscles the next day, I haven’t pushed enough! I just noticed today, when taking down a huge pile of laundry from the upstairs hamper—and by hamper, I do mean the entire upstairs—that controlling the basket was considerably easier than I remember it being. Of course, I can’t remember the last time I did laundry either, but it is a small boost in the right direction. Booyah!
