  • Review: ReviewMe

    November 15, 2006

There’s been a small explosion of writeups for the new review placement service ReviewMe. The reason? ReviewMe is another way that bloggers might get some money for their hard work. The idea is pretty simple: write reviews for cash.

  • Flat Pens Revisited

    November 14, 2006

Bookmark PensJust about a year ago, I was obsessed with making a flat pen that would fit into a book or journal. A flat pen, I reasoned, would allow the pages of a book to “flow” better.

I finally stumbled upon some readily available ones right at Barnes & Noble, which commenter Claire had first brought to my attention the last time I was penhunting in Boston. Thanks for the tip, Claire!

Bookmark PensThe flattened pen is about 4.5 inches long, 7/16th of an inch wide, and a mere 1/8th inch thick. The clip adds another 1/16ths of an inch to the thickness, but still lies flat. While the build quality is a little on the light side, it’s a pretty stable writing instrument for short sessions. There’s some flex in the pen body if you exert some force on it, but it’s one step above the usual cheap-o novelty pen. They are also prettier than the folding wallet pen I saw on LifeHacker.

    UPDATE 2015

Barnes and Noble still has them on their online store!

  • Firefox’s BEYOND ANNOYING Find-as-you-Type Bug

    November 13, 2006

Every once in a while, I dutifully upgrade Firefox to the next release. Then, I have to again figure out WHY THE @%! that the #&$@! FIND AS YOU TYPE @#!*?! FEATURE gets enabled when I type the ‘ (single quote) key. WHY LORD, WHY? It’s intermittent too. Fortunately, some light has been shed on this (mutter) issue at Adam Messinger’s blog, along with a suggested solution.

  • 1000 Posts

    November 12, 2006

Today I’ve hit the 1000 published post milestone…yay! That marks 25.5 months of (mostly) continuous blogging. I’m curious where the energy has gone, so I compiled some quick stats. It occurs to me that having 1000 posts is not unlike folding 1000 cranes, so I think I’ll make a wish at the end of this post.

    TOP 10 CATEGORIES

Excepting Quick Posts (100 entries), here’s where I’ve written the most. This 25% accounts for 50% of posting categories.

    1. Productivity (106 posts)
    2. Development – Gweeping (77)
    3. Personal – Gawking (68)
    4. Design – Inspiration (66)
    5. Personal – Blogging (58)
    6. Personal – Encounters (57)
    7. Personal – Food (52)
    8. Personal – Introspection (50)
    9. Freelancing (44)
    10. Flash (40)

The full list of categories is at the end of this post.

    FAVORITE CATEGORIES

The first year I was blogging, I wrote about a lot more personal things. The mix of topics has shifted somewhat as I’ve found my groove. My favorite entries seem to cluster into the following categories, listed here in no particular order.

I’m not sure what exactly this says about me, but there might be some hint in there about something. I wonder if this could help me target the right career path?
