  • Trello, Again: Followup

    August 19, 2012

To recap: last week I was excited to discover how Trello could manage my entire project backlog with big-picture ease. While some may argue that having a huge back list of “wish projects” is a form of mental masturbation, I look at it a bit differently: my backlog of dream projects is a catalog of what I think is worth pursuing, and is part of my identity as a creative person.

The trick, of course, moving out of the dream domain and into the world of production. And this is where Trello, with its suitability to kanban-style planning, is coming into play.

For reference, here’s what my “DaveCo Personal” board looks like right now, with annotations to show the function of each column.

  • 2012 Server Transition Complete

    August 18, 2012

I moved the last site (my friend Alen’s toyboxdx.com Japanese Robot site) to the new server, and it’s finally done. ALL DONE. I’m going to keep the old server around for a couple of weeks just to make sure that everything is OK, then cut the cord. I plan to write up some tech notes on the entire experience (about 1000 lines of notes worth). Now that this is out of the way (it essentially ate my entire week) I can get back to making stuff.

    August 14, 2012

Toilet Repair Kit A couple months ago, my upstairs toilet started running water continuously due to a broken flapper. I promptly shut off the water supply and drained the tank, later putting a large basket on the toilet seat to prevent me from using it. This toilet had been acting up for years, but had never broken completely enough to warrant calling a plumber or rising to engage what my friend Colleen calls, “one’s masculine best”. This is a state of confident manliness, one facet of which is the display of resourcefulness with tools when dealing with unpleasant domestic infrastructure projects. Little did I know that this adventure in basic plumbing would help me understand how overcoming resistance was a process of recognizing obstacles and deploying the appropriate countermeasures. • ETP for the iPad: Beta Testing Signup and Usage Poll

    August 9, 2012

iPad App In Progress Internet collaborator Al Briggs and I have been making progress on the Emergent Task Planner iPad App! Al’s doing the heavy lifting on the IOS programming side, and I’m providing the sparkly graphics as the curmudgeonly designer. As you can see, it’s in pretty preliminary shape, just testing the graphics presentation and internal guts, but we’re starting to pick up momentum.

Right now, we’re trying to figure out the best combination of features to provide on the App, and we’ve discovered that we have different ways of using the form. This is where we need your input!

After the jump, you’ll find a description of how I use the ETP, with Al’s Beta Testing Signup link at the end. (more…)
