  • HybridWorks

    March 2, 2005

Visit HybridworksJeff forwarded me this link to HybridWorks, a Japanese graphic design / illustration firm based in Tokyo. It’s one of those sites that make me wonder what business I have doing computer graphics when I’m comparatively better suited for stacking boxes of cereal or sweeping out the stables. At the same time…yummy yummy pixel and vector artwork and animation! Yummy, I say! Reach for it!

  • Manhattan Transformations

    March 1, 2005

Visit Site Stumbled upon Manhattan Transformations, a mapping of “Manhattan’s skyscraper district through time”. It allows you to visually layer different kinds of geographical data, such as geological formation, districting, and so forth.

It’s a well-executed Flash piece. Some of the cool pieces are the 3D flythrough (depicted above), which I’m guessing is pre-plotted rather than computed. There’s a very nice load indicator that doesn’t use the usual “loading bar” look. Digging through the site notes, it looks like this site was created way back in 2000, and was a Macromedia Site of the Day! It still holds up in 2005. Of course, I am a sucker for wireframe graphics; sue me, I’m a child of the 80s!

  • 30 Seconds Over MovieLand

    February 28, 2005

Visit Angry Alien Ged forwarded me the link to Angry Alien, the home of several brilliant distillations of classic movies like Jaws in a mere 30 seconds, as re-enacted (naturally) by bunnies.

The creator, animator Jennifer Shiman, captures the essence of the movies without a lot of that tedious fast forwarding. It’s great to see that she’s attracting national interest as a result of her creativity…awesome!

  • Get Published on Amazon

    February 27, 2005

Kevin Kelly posted an article on how to get published on Amazon. It doesn’t take a whole lot of cash outlay (around 150 bucks plus two copies of your work), though you get only 45% of the listed price. Kelly notes that this isn’t a way of making money, but to get your message out there by leveraging Amazon’s huge traffic and e-commerce system. Cheaper than the vanity press, with more eyeballs!
