Productivity, Thy Foe is Cat
May 11, 2006Read moreI was just settling down to do some pre-work planning, but apparently this was not meant to be:
He laid down right on top of everything I was working on. Yeah, my office is a mess right now. Still need to mount the check rail over my monitor! In the meantime I’m using some extra-sticky Post-It pads on a portable whiteboard…that’s a useful trick to write about, now that I think about it.
(Aside: Thine? Thy? Which one is it?) UPDATE: Fixed the title :-) I was confused whether Productivity was plural or not…thanks, commenters!

Sweet Task Order Up Photos
May 10, 2006Read moreI followed a referrer back to the photoblog Another Dose of Imagery, which has some nice pictures of the Task Order Up…way nicer than mine. In my mind’s eye that’s what I was going for in terms of lighting, but am obviously not hitting :-) I am inspired to try harder!

Task Order Up in Two New Index Card Formats
May 9, 2006Read moreBy request, here are 3×5 and 4×6 card formats, suitable for printers capable of handing those sizes directly.
UPDATE: Made a tweak to the 4×6″ edition for use with my own job-tracking setup…I needed to add contact information to each card. This is likely to be the official version from now on. Send feedback if you’re trying these out and need an adjustment.
Instructions for Printing
I tested these on my Canon Pixma IP5200R on blank index cards. The setup (Windows XP):
- Selected the reduce to fit printer margins options in the Acrobat print dialog.
- Also went into the Printer configuration (Printer->Properties) to set the paper size to 4×6″ or 3×5″ (portrait), depending on the media I was printing. You might want to make sure your printer can really handle this; some smaller sizes aren’t recommended depending on the model of printer you have.
As a bonus, I put interactive text fields into the 4×6 format, so you can type in your text in Acrobat before printing the forms. If people like this, let me know and I’ll start retrofitting this to the older forms.
The results look pretty good…I like it a lot. Cheap to print, sturdy, and no cutting necessary! Rock!

Task Order Up! 3×5 Index Card Edition
May 8, 2006Read moreBy request of a Hipster-using reader, I’ve made a 3×5 index card version of the Task Order Up! I just laid 4 of them out on a piece of 8.5×11 cardstock.
I also reformatted the layout such that:
- Accurately cutting the cardstock isn’t as critical as with the original design.
The “Task Definition” is on the bottom of the card, as this is the important part that needs to be visible when hung up on the check rack.
The “Hours” part is moved to the top, and will disappear under the check rack. Since this isn’t critical information until you’re done, I figured it didn’t need to show in that case.
<
p>This version is based on variation 5 of the Task Order Up! This is the first time I’ve tried making something for the 3×5″ format, so feedback, comments are welcome.
