The Printable CEO™ VII: Resource Time Tracking
September 27, 2006Read moreLately, I’ve been struggling to keep track of multiple deadlines on multiple projects of multiple types. Yeesh!
Although I had everything listed that I need to do in a big text file, thanks to my earlier GTD pass, I have yet to overcome that feeling of paralysis that comes from knowing what to do next. Additionally, I find that I don’t have a good sense of how much time I have available in the future. This is really important for maintaining my pacing and for my work as a freelancer; if I don’t know what time I can book in the future, I may create problems
The ability to easily visualize available time is what’s on my mind right now. To that end, I’ve made a new two-part form called The Resource Scheduler Parts 1 and 2.

Emergent Task Planner Mods!
September 27, 2006Read moreThere’s a neat post by GTD Wannabe on her adaptation of the Emergent Task Planner form I made a few weeks ago. She’s added some features from the Emergent Task Timer, as it’s her favorite form, but wanted to incorporate some additional elements.
I like the idea of showing the critical path of work during the day, and the refactoring of the time blocks into time block columns. Instead of using different-sized blocks, she uses blocks that are all the same size (15 minutes). The multiple columns remain for A-E level tasks. It’s a very nice solution to the inflexibility issue that people had with the original ETP. In my case, I wanted the inflexibility, because I was using this form to make my time fit into boxes. I’m starting to think that this, for me, is like trying to hold back the ocean. I’ve been thinking of adding a timeblock line to the Emergent Task Time itself, but I like this solution better. Sweet!

Kensington Pocket Keypad
September 25, 2006Read moreI wasted a couple hours debugging a Kensington Pocket Keypad I had purchased to work with a 3D program I’m using. I use ancient Model M keyboards on all my PCs, specifically the 84-key Space Saver design that lacks a numpad. Geeky notes follow.

Firefly Weekend
September 24, 2006Read moreI just finished re-watching all the episodes of Joss Whedon’s Firefly in a row. I need to pick up the Serenity movie tomorrow and finish it all off. Dare I say I like it better than the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica?
