New Daily Challenge: Cracking the Mysteries of Marketing
March 4, 2013Read moreAfter having accumulated 30 days worth of new products, I’m now painfully aware of just how difficult it is to FIND anything on davidseah.com. Where am I going to put all these challenge results? How am I going to show what I’m selling, what’s free to download, and showcase the coolest stuff on the website? Right now, it’s hard to find ANYTHING. There’s a lot of room for improvement.
So this month from March 4 to April 3, I’ll be investigating and implementing changes I can make to my website to make it much easier to use. To make this goal into a daily challenge, I’m going to do the following:
- Spend my first 15 minutes of the day (my daily startup ritual time) thinking and writing about marketing as it pertains to making the website into a better vehicle for achieving my creative independence goals.
- I will spend ONLY 15 minutes on this thinking / writing task. This limit will allow me to test the power of the 15-minute daily ritual to get things done in yet another context. More data!
Spending the next 15 minutes writing a blog post summarizing my thinking of the day.
Spending what time I have available between client projects working on the marketing changes.

Day 30: Index Card Docks, Batch F

Can you believe it, it’s the last Product-A-Day challenge piece! I wanted to make something with my hands, so I returned to the Index Card Dock project from last June.
If you’re not familiar with them, they’re something I made to make index cards more visible on my desk. Here’s a picture of one I’ve been working on for my friend Colleen, trying different finishes and then sanding them off again, which is why I still have it:
While I still don’t quite have the finishing process right yet, I’m nevertheless putting 12 docks into production for eventual sale. It’s an exercise in process management and accounting! (more…)

Day 29: Madness-inducing Interval Graph Paper
March 1, 2013Read more
After doing all the survey analysis late last night, I fell into a fitful sleep. ETP users who wanted double-sided pages were going to get their notebook, but the significant minority of single-sided page users would not be satisfied. They wanted their dot grid on the blank side, but it would have to wait.
I dreamed that there was a magic graph paper that went far beyond dot-grid paper in its mystic properties, but in my vision the paper was blurred and I couldn’t get a good look at it. When I awoke, I thought I would see what I could come up with. I based the design on ratios from 1/1 to 1/12, foggily thinking that maybe some secret of music theory would be revealed if I sketched on it for a long time.
