2014 Resolutions Review 08: Shifting Goals
October 13, 2014Read moreI just got back from a 10-day business trip to California, and so I’m posting my Groundhog Day Resolutions Review a few days late. One of the highlights was going to a fancy steak restaurant to try “A Tasting of New York Sirloin”, featuring USDA Prime Dry Aged steak, American Wagyu, and Japanese Wagyu in small portions side-by-side. It was the most money I ever spent on a dinner, but when I reframe it as a “workshop in fine steak”, the price seemed much more reasonable. It helped that I was eating with two other fiendishly picky eaters, and we talked food all night about the difference between each cut of meat at great length. Ahhh!
But I digress! Today I am wondering how much closer I am to my 2014 goals of…well, one reason I do these monthly reviews is to reorient myself. (more…)

The trigger was my 10 year blogging anniversary, in which I noted the desire to change the energy of this blog toward project work. Game Project 1401: Kickoff
September 24, 2014Read moreOne of the six goals I established in my next ten years is making my own game. I’ve made games before as part of a team, but never one “just for me”. This is the first in a series of detailed articles detailing the development of Project 1401. It’s a fairly technical overview, but I welcome questions from anyone who might have a question about what I’m doing and why; one of my subgoal is to make the approach to this project accessible to anyone who is interested in writing a web app or architecting a simple video game.
