    SUMMARY: Decided to use built-in WordPress AJAX support. Adapted tutorials to work with my solution by tracing through WordPress code line-by-line. Successfully sent jQuery POST to WordPress AJAX handler and dispatched through my handler. Successfully returned a WordPress object back to calling javascript. Round-trip communication is now achieved. (more…)

  • Mail Bag: Simple Lists and Polish Translation

    Some quick links from my mail bag:

    • Don’t Get Distracted is a dead-simple “three most important things” focusing tool. Enter three things, then estimate how much time, and go! A countdown timer automatically starts.
    • Paweł Tkaczyk has written about the Concrete Goals Tracker in Polish, nicely asking for permission to use the images. This has gotten me thinking about putting more time into translation and localization.

    SUMMARY: Review and refine database schema. Add database initialization code for testing, populating tables with minimum data set. Looked at issues of security and user authentication surrounding use of AJAX with WordPress. Reviewed several solutions, then slept on it. (more…)

    SUMMARY: Bought a javascript book and a jQuery cookbook to get familiar with common programming solutions. Figured out the flow of execution for the javascript-side of the web app. Added dynamic javascript load support, which will allow me to manage the code more easily into a standard MVC split. (more…)

  • Palomino Blackwing 602 Pencil

    Palomino Blackwing 602 I just got around to trying out the Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil, which is a recreation of the Eberhard Blackwing 602 first manufactured in the 1930s and discontinued in 1998. They were a favorite of John Steinbeck and Chuck Jones, and originals are an object of desire for pencil aficionados the world over. Got $50? You might be able to buy one on Ebay.

    I’m not an expert in pencils by any stretch of the imagination, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Plus…I love office supplies :) I’ve posted my impressions of the Palomino Blackwing 602 over on my secret Gear sub-blog.
