Several months ago I got an email from a reader inquiring whether I had a donation page. I didn’t, but I told him that I was thinking of setting up a Patreon page, which is a cool website where creative types of all stripes can be supported by people (patrons) who like their work through PayPal micropayments. I support several creatives on Patreon myself, people whose work I find delightful and perhaps under-recognized. My own Patreon page has been in limbo since Patreon itself launched, because I wasn’t sure exactly what I would do or what I would offer.
Yesterday, the same reader got back to me, gleefully reporting that he had found my Patreon page and signed-up as a patron! This was surprising to me for (1) the zeal of the reader and (2) my Patreon page is not published, which I assumed meant it wasn’t accessible. I guess what happened is that since I’m already a patron supporting other artist, my actual Patreon user profile page is visible AND apparently it shows the placeholder information I had put there. Oops. I thanked the reader and then steeled myself to finally update the page to make it Sunday’s official business-related Groundhog Day Resolutions goal.
The page is located at http://patreon.com/daveseah if you’d like to check it out. I spent 8 hours figuring out what to say, but fortunately I had yesterday’s epiphany to draw from. I’m REALLY HAPPY with the way I deconstructed what it is I do.
So check it out and let me know what you think! I still have to make the intro video that describes what I do, but I’ll have to tackle that later this week. In the meantime, my Patreon page is officially “soft launched”!
Stuff Learned and GHDR Points Earned
This is a major creative business goal, so that’s worth 10 points!
PTS | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
10 | Creative Business Enabler! |
5 | Packaged previous work! |
2 | Posted words on this website! |
So…17 points. It feels like it should be more, but I am too lazy (and it’s 745AM after staying up all night trying to push through this), so I am going to just call it here and take a long nap.
About this Article Series
For my 2016 Groundhog Day Resolutions, I'm challenging myself to make something goal-related every day from February 2nd through December 12. All the related posts (and more!) are gathered on the Challenge Page.
