Passion for the Ivory Bill
April 28, 2005Read moreI found this story on BoingBoing strangely uplifting. A guy paddling around in Arkansas see what he thinks is an extinct woodpecker. Two hardcore bird academics interview the guy, and are so excited they fly back with him to Arkansas. Extinct Woodpecker is spotted, and high emotion ensues! Excerpt:
“When we finished our notes,” Gallagher said, “Bobby sat down on a log, put his face in his hands and began to sob, saying, ‘I saw an ivory-bill. I saw an ivory-bill.'”

Ged forwarded me this great picture of the 501st Legion (aka “Vader’s Fist), from the Rebel Scum website. The photo was taken at Celebration III, a large Star Wars convention that just wrapped up a few days ago.
According to the 501st Website, they are “The World’s Definitive Imperial Costuming Organization”, with 2500+ members around the world. Their first officer is none other than David Prowse, the man who wears the actual movie costume. Though I don’t think it was his idea :-)

If winning means getting fat. A company in New Hampshire has developed a device to help modify such behavior through the use of blinking LED technology…100% solid state!
