December 23, 2010Read moreI’ve just posted the anniversary podcast from Sid and myself in a special hour-long format. A Complete Graphic Design Education for $179
December 21, 2010Read moreI’m a big fan of Before and After Magazine, and I’m very tempted to pick up their Master Collection of All Articles for $179. It is some of the clearest, most immediately usable graphic educational material I’ve even seen. Free of bombast and heavy on illuminating principles.

Muppets and Marriage Proposals
December 16, 2010Read moreMy friend Sid Ceaser recently conspired to shoot a secret marriage proposal video in the style of a movie trailer, using muppet versions of himself and his longtime girlfriend Sara. Not only that, he was able to convince the local indy movie theater to show it between some real movie trailers to surprise the tears right out of her. His recent blog post “The Proposal” – My Cinematic Love Letter to Sara Prindiville links to the final video (on YouTube), with copious behind-the-scenes notes and footage. Super awesome! Warning: VERY ROMANTIC.

A Restatement of Purpose
December 7, 2010Read moreHello world! I’ve been sick for the past three weeks, having succumbed to either closet dust on my winter clothing (which tends to trigger bronchitis) or a pastry that I saw a little kid touch moments before I ingested it; I shall not underestimate the power of child-incubated germs in the future.
Anyway, it’s been quite some time since I’ve been this sick, and I’ve had to slow waaaay down. The silver lining is that it’s become a time of reflection. I documented most of this in The Google Wave with Colleen™, which sort of works like a text-adventure version of a magic mirror. A lot of what’s on my mind is related to stepping up my game to dig myself out of this plateau I feel I’m in. 2010 is almost over, and this was the year I had hoped to be more independent financially than before. I’d say I’m about halfway there, in terms of figuring out what works, but it’s been slow going as far as making it work. (more…)
