I’ve started the long update procedure for the 2011 Printable CEO form updates, beginning with the ever-popular Emergent Task Planner (ETP).
New in 2011
There are major changes coming to the entire Printable CEO (PCEO) series that will be happening this year, but the end result should be more forms from the entire back catalog that are no longer outdated every year.
- I’ve finally dropped the year from the forms; while I like the way it looks, it makes the form updates every year rather tedious.
I’m switching to a new font called Proxima Nova Condensed. It has just a bit more charm that my old standby Helvetica Neue Condensed; you can read about the font switch in my post, An Incremental Change in Identity.
I am now making the free versions of the forms match the pre-printed versions available on Amazon. If you like quality paper and want to save the hassle of printing, these are a worth looking into.
The smaller-sized A5 and MiniUS versions will be available as soon as I can make the last round of changes in it; they will be available on the ETP home page.

p>I am starting to standardize on a new instruction format (see above). It’s available on the new ETP home page. It’s not quite done; I have to actually substitute my handwriting on the form itself as an example, but I haven’t done it yet because I need to do some fancy image processing to make it work. But here it is so far:
Incidentally, all the forms are moving to a new section independent of the regular blog postings. I’m using a WordPress 3.0 feature called “custom post types” which should, in combination with custom taxonomies, make it a lot easier to find just the right form. FINALLY!

Thanks David, I enjoyed being in the development process for the A5 ETP (looking forward to the A6). I am finding that the A6 size works well for me in terms of always having it with me.
The instruction form looks great, nice and clear and simple.
Thanks, Dave. Much appreciated. I love the Proxima font and new (old) color scheme. Many thanks from a daily user of the ETP! Will there be an editable version of this file or no? I removed the time bubbles from the Day Grid Balancer (as I do not bill time) and would love to do the same on the ETP. No sweat if not, still love it and swear by it!

Sarah: Thanks for the feedback, glad you’re liking it! When you say “editable version of the file”, what do you mean? Something you can enter text on, or source code? Probably not Illustrator source code (there are license restrictions on the fonts, even if I convert to outlines). However, there is a line of source code templates I’m developing using Open Fonts, but no ETA on that.

Just wanted to say thank you for your ongoing effort and work on the printable CEO tools — and most of all for your generosity in sharing this productivity resource. I’ve been using the emergent task planner and several of the other tools over the past three years and have found them to be quite helpful in directing focus attention to the most important objectives of the day.
Keep up the great work and know that there are people who really appreciate the value and thoughtfulness of these tools!
I like it, but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with the bubbles on the left. Fill them in as time goes by?
Do you have any tutorials on how to get the best (or even basic use) out of your sheets?
Being a solitary self emp0lyed web worker, time just flys and I get easily distracted. I never seem to complete the daily tasks that I set myself. I have tried Planner Pads, but their system didn’t work for me. I just ended up using the Pad like a normal diary.
I haven’t looked through your site in detail, so excuse me if you do have some tutorials somewhere on your website.
Dave- thanks for your response (and apologies for my delayed re-response!)…
My question was whether or not there would be a version of the ETP that would be customizable/editable in Illustrator… I also use your Day Grid Balancer, but I went into Illustrator and removed the time tracking bubbles so that I’d have more space to write in the ‘toughest tasks’ section. I loved opening those lines up and creating a little more space; plus, I don’t bill my time to anyone, so I don’t use the bubbles. :)
I just meant to ask if there was a file version that would let me take out the time tracking bubbles on the ETP so I could, you know, show off my handwriting a little more.

Sarah: I’ve dropped the protection on all the PDFs in 2011, so you should be able to just load the ETP into Illustrator and have at it!
