Following Sunday’s feeling of burnout, I was compelled to review and reassess my focus this week, as far as Groundhog Day Resolutions are concerned. A brief preliminary analysis follows.
What Is Bugging Me?
The feeling that I’m not 100% on track would leave me, so I headed out to a Starbucks I rarely visit about 10 miles away from the house. I whipped out a notebook and started writing down what was on my mind; this happened to be a list of recent activities that I’d be spending time on. I then annotated each activity with associated thoughts:
- Screencasting – Thinking of how to do the tech setup, how I wanted the screencasts to “feel” to people, making supporting graphics media so it would look nice, and the overall production design and format so it would be interesting to watch.
- Patreon Page – Thinking of what my mission was/will be, and how it be expressed by the offerings I make available. Also, how it’s about connections and telling a kind of story that I invite people to become part of.
- Stationery Business – Thinking about product to offer, what the simplest best products would be, providing a great experience using them, and also wrapping it up in some kind of storytelling (branding?)
It crossed my mind that all of these activities are long term marathons of perseverance, which is the kind of challenge that I find difficult to maintain without plentiful feedback from other people. This is a familiar challenge. I probably need to lower my expectations as to how many tasks I can do simultaneously and yet again learn to accept slow progress. I am not in a hurry. It is more important for me to mindfully make progress on my personal projects as I handle other responsibilities to myself. I just hate the feeling of being limited by my own resources.
Stuff Learned and GHDR Points Earned
Not a lot of points today…it’s an overhead day!
PTS | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
3 | Tried something I didn’t know would work (diagraming) |
2 | Made a model that will help me with my decision making |
2 | Posted words on this website! |
A lousy 7 points. Don’t feel good about that, but maybe accepting lower points is actually helpful in learning how to slow down and accept long progress. A question for the remainder of the week: what is the MINIMUM progress I can make on a goal that still feels like progress?
About this Article Series
For my 2016 Groundhog Day Resolutions, I'm challenging myself to make something goal-related every day from February 2nd through December 12. All the related posts (and more!) are gathered on the Challenge Page.
