Day 4 of The Minimalist’s Game sees me throwing out four candles from the guest room.
A few years ago, one of my good friends was between places and stayed with me for a few months. She transformed the guest room into a place that she could feel comfortable, which involved glittery curtains, intricate wrought iron wall decorations, and several candles. She went on to learn how to sail tiny sailboats across enormous stretches of water, and eventually ended up back in California. There are a few boxes of things that are still in the guest room from her stay, including these four candles, occupying an otherwise-empty bookshelf.
I lit ’em up one last time, uttered a prayer of gratitude for having wonderful friends who inspire me, and then took them out to the dumpster because I am totally not a candle guy unless they smell like apples.

This is a cool November project. I’m inspired to de-clutter and get rid of stuff that is just taking up space. Thanks for sharing this!
