I distill insight from chaos.
I can create customized versions of my productivity tools for your personal or business use. I also offer three supporting creative services: sounding board, design strategy and information graphic design.
A. Sounding Board
I will tell you what I think, if you tell me what is on your mind. I’m very good at accurately distilling the essence of what’s on your mind through ordinary conversation. If you are looking for a reasoned, yet non-judgmental perspective on just about anything, I can provide you with that in spades.
Think of it as a way of gaining extra clarity down in writing, so you can review it later and expand upon it. It’s often suitable for mission statements, reports, and business plans.
Monthly retainers are available.
B. Help with Design Strategy
If you are unfamiliar with using design or technology services, and are looking for your own advocate to see your way through safely, this is the service for you.
I can teach you what I know about the use of design professionals, explaining the methods using your own business goals as a reference point. I can also help you create the production spec you can use to create a “request for proposal” document, with definitions that will help you tell whether someone is blowing smoke at you or not.
C. Information Graphic Design Services
I like thinking of ways of showing the relationships between concepts and data in an easy-to-understand, workflow-friendly way. I start by understanding the root principles that drive the data and its use. I then create, with words and imagery, a set of graphics that convey it as accurately and usefully as I can.
I place great emphasis on the psychology of visual hierarchy, gestalt, and the meaning of images. This approach helps me control the order in which a viewer scans information on a page, which leads to improved comprehension.
Working Considerations
I like to chat with my clients, through email or over Skype, to get regular feedback on the ongoing work. I also enjoy talking with clients about their work and workday, which helps provide a greater context for our work. It’s an essential part of my working style.
If you are so busy that you have difficulty…
- decisively committing to a time and date to talk
- providing timely feedback to something I’ve sent you via email
…it’s probably not going to be a good working relationship. Plan on skyping/emailing me a MINIMUM of once every two weeks to keep your project alive.
Likewise, I don’t work with vague direction. I answer specific questions in the context of your stated goals. If you are unsure what the question or the goal is, we can brainstorm a quick plan that will establish our bearing. Only then can I apply my abilities to make something that I think will work for you. This very much depends on you and your level of engagement.
Terms of Work
My terms of work are based on the approach of working in short, controlled stages. Read my project scope and pricing terms for a more detailed description of the project cycle.
