I think the most generally useful form I’ve made from a productivity perspective has been the Concrete Goals Tracker, because it does a good job of really focusing you on benefit-bringing activity … if you’ve taken the time to really pick good goals. [...] So I was reading Dave Seah’s blog the other day, and came upon his Printable CEO paper forms, and I love them - partly due to the design, but also because the point-based rewards on the main printable ceo really got my brain firing. There’s something about checking off boxes and filling things in that appeals to the geek in me - Dave compares it to standardized testing, but it always reminded me of character sheets. [...]

[...] Since then, I’ve come to appreciate the joy of being part of such a dynamic club. Everyone in 9rules is, in a sense, an ass-kicker and an entrepreneur. That’s rare to find. People in 9rules are pretty independent too, but willing to share their expertise and knowledge. I learned a LOT about this whole Web 2.0 movement from just reading the forums, and as a result I’m much more “with it” with the web community than I otherwise would have been. Also, 9rules helped drive the adoption of The Printable CEO, which I first released on a whim a couple weeks after making it in, and the visibility from 9rules and member sites that found and liked it helped get me some attention from some of the major productivity sites like Lifehacker and 43Folders that I otherwise would probably not have had. [...] I’ve been so impressed by the forms generated by David Seah on his Printable CEO blog. With his wonderful imagination he brings fun and a sense of play to time management. His concrete goals tracker is geared to his field, but the point system could be modified for regular people with a combination of ideas for setting priorities from Stephen R Covey’s time management matrix and Julie Morgenstern’s Return on Investment ideas from her book “Making Work Work.” The result might look something like this: [...]

[...] I recently read in David Seah’s Blog how he needs to be his own CEO as he is a freelancer and nobody is telling him what needs to be done and that he is doing important and wonderful work. You can create your own measure of importance for each point amount or use point system provided as example on the left. You then want to make a game out of your list by trying to knock off as many tasks as you can in a day and seeing how high you can get your score. 38. Sukshma, Santosh Dawara » David Seah: Stay focused

[...] For those who are working on their own, there is no one standing behind you to motivate you, to push you forward in your career. I recommend finding mentors, but they cannot be around you all the time. David Seah has found an excellent method of staying focused even when your working alone and has documented it. This is a good read for those who want to be able to motivate themselves. I used a similar method to get through my thesis in graduate school, so I know it can work. I love the freedom of being a freelancer, but sometimes I wish someone with vision and drive whispered encouragement in my ear: “Good work, Dave! This Flash project you’re working on is a key part of our interactive marketing strategy! All the pieces are falling into place!” But since I work alone, it’s my job to keep myself motivated and away from the dozens of daily distractions that suck productivity out of the day: more…    [...]
