After taking a bit to get into a routine and keep away from all of the distractions from being at home I’m really enjoying the new change of pass. In addition to working with Ma.gnolia I’ve started writing for Infinite Loop, Ars Techncia’s Mac journal. Writing is not my strong suite, but you can’t get better at something without trying and practice. I have been using the “Emergent Task Timer” from David Seah’s Printable CEO series to keep track of what I am and not doing through out the day. [...] Later on I find out I didn’t purchase an alarm clock from Radio Shack but a timer. I’m somewhat amused, somewhat dissapointed, but find out quickly that the device has 12hour count down functionality and figure that setting it for 8 hours at 12am is about the same thing as setting an alarm clock to chime at 8am so I’m not that miffed. The thing about work is that I tend to press my nose so far into the grind stone that after a while all I can see is the grindstone, all blurry ’cause it’s spinning so fast. Need to take a step back, formulate an accurate picture of whats going on here (because formulating acurate pictures is VERY important when we start talking about the nature of perception). Last night I ran across this shit, David Seah’s Printable CEO, which is cool and inspiring. Takes the work (or at least initial step) out of devining a system for being able to create and analyze models of the activities one has or plans to participate in (couple that with some solid GTD and we might actually get somewhere here). The thing is this…some of his forms require an egg-timer or equivelant for tracking intervals of time (strange that I, seemingly against my will, came into one very recently), funnier still, the Basil Seed with Honey Drink photo comes from his Flickr account…coincidence? or synchronisity? [...]

High prioritized critical tasks like bringing in new business receive the highest points, while lower priority tasks receive fewer or no points. The points system help you focus on what is really important to your bottom line and helps keep you from wasting too much time on time consuming low yield activities. Another nice benefit is that at the end of the day you have a quantitative measurement of your performance and how well you stayed on task.
