Kate and Kat

POSTED 10/20/2005 UNDER Cats

Kate and Kat I haven't posted a cat picture in a long time, so here's Ekaterina (aka Kate) and Katai (aka Kat). Referred to collectively as Kat(e).

They usually don't sit together, so this was a rather unusual photo op. Their pose is reminiscent of a billboard ad for TV News: "Kate Winters and Kat Carson, live at 11 on NewsCenter 38!"

Kat

Here's Katai, smugly defying the law of "conservation of matter". Where does it go?

Theory vs. Practice

POSTED 12/04/2004 UNDER CatsEditorial

I scan the search keywords for my website periodically to see how people are finding it, and occassionally find people hitting an article or two to find the answer to a specific question. Sometimes I'll annotate articles to be a little more helpful, especially if the question seems to be of universal interest to my fellow nerds.

Today, I saw something search terms that inspired an entire new article, related to this previous post on flea control:

Search Terms: can i wash my cat with 20 mule team borax
My Helpful Answer: NO

Still, it's a logical question...since the borax works by shrivelling up flea larvae like salt on a slug, I'm pretty sure you don't want to do that to your cat, but ask your vet. While you're at it, get the Advantage or Frontline stuff. It works waaaay better at nuking fleas than anything else I've tried.

Otto, by Duncan

POSTED 11/29/2004 UNDER Cats

Otto Duncan has a new camera, and he sent me this awesome shot of his cat Otto. I like the dour, slightly frowning expression and raised paw. It sort of reminds me of Hobbes when he's in "stuffed animal" mode. The slightly sinister underlighting and angle is also reminiscent of Repo Man. Yet, Otto retains a fundamental cuteness as his birthright...behold, the power of furriness!
