Shuttle Return to Flight

Shuttle Return to Flight

Visit Site NASA has put up Return to Flight in anticipation of STS-114, the 31st shuttle mission, and the first since the horrible accident. The mission statement is pretty innoculous:

The Return to Flight mission, designated STS-114, is targeted for a launch window beginning in May. The seven-member Discovery crew will fly to the International Space Station primarily to test and evaluate new safety procedures. There have been many safety improvements to the Shuttle, including a redesigned External Tank, new sensors and a boom that will allow astronauts to inspect the Shuttle for any potential damage.

There’s an interactive flash piece also, with an intro video by Scott Bakkula, star of cancelled Star Trek series Enterprise.

I love the Space Program. My hopes and prayers are with the crew and all the dedicated folks that make it possible.
