Completed! GHDR Tracker Form! (GHD005)

Completed! GHDR Tracker Form! (GHD005)

"Final Form" Today has been rather sleepy day, since I was up way too late debugging some code for another project, but behold! The first release of a Groundhog Day Resolutions Tracker is born! I have my own version, but also have made a blank version if anyone wants to give it a try.

Here’s the Final Design

Picking up from yesterday, I wanted to add some date information and figure out how to make it look nice. I did make a few changes to the point list too.

Here’s the Release:

The release version

And for the sake of comparison, here’s yesterday’s progress:

The current prototype

A new thing design-wise was removing the multi-colored goal list on the left, because I wanted to reserve the candy rainbow effect for the points list. I chose a kind of purply color that reminded me a bit of a mimeograph, or maybe grape soda…I like the color, so used it throughout to serve an an anchoring color used through the design.

As I was looking over the final form, it occurred to me that most of it was applicable to anyone’s goal, so I made a blank version to download and print. I haven’t actually test-printed this in color yet because my POS Epson Workforce 4630 has problems printing in color and has to go back for warranty service AGAIN, so if there are any issues let me know.

This one is for people who want to follow along with Groundhog Day Resolutions, using the specific point list critera I’ve developed.

NOTE: The dotted lines in the second column may not print if you are using a non-Adobe PDF viewer that doesn’t draw them correctly.

This is the form with a blank goals AND blank points list so you can make-up your own points.

Next Steps

So with this out of the way, I’m ready to actually start working actively on my goals…ulp! I actually feel a bit of trepidation because these goals DON’T FEEL EASY TO DO. I might have to actually modify an ETT or ETP to work with this tracker form for daily pacing too; perhaps a new kit can come out of it, which would be worth 10 points!

This might be a good time to schedule a first Google Hangout with everyone who expressed interest in forming the informal review group for our goals. Unless someone tells me that there’s a strong reason not to use Google Plus Communities for a discussion area (everyone has a Google account right?), I’m probably going to try using it for this. Let me know what you think in the comments!

About this Article Series

For my 2016 Groundhog Day Resolutions, I'm challenging myself to make something goal-related every day from February 2nd through December 12. All the related posts (and more!) are gathered on the Challenge Page.

Hey Dave, congratulations on your new “baby”!

I love the aesthetic result; funny, when I saw the final version, my first thought was “using a single color on the left is great; that way it balances nicely with the colors on the right” — which is pretty much what you mention later in the post! Of course it’s always easy to see this kind of things after the fact… :)

Thank you also for providing a version for users to try. I would like to give it a go for a few days, although I don’t know when will it be because my access to a printer is a bit complicated these days…

One thing has intrigued me all the way through, though: why is “cooking for others” a 2024 goal? Isn’t that something that can be done right away? :P

Thanks for doing this! I have one question about the form. I have been able to add my goals to the goal sections and have started adding the pursuit section. But I do not seem to be able to edit the Record Goal-Related Points, is there a way to do that. I am new to Adobe Reader DC so there might be something I am missing. So far all I have been able to do is type over what is already there and then can’t read either! LOL

As to the Google hangout idea – I think it is great. However, I have been told that the Business version is better. Frankly I have no way of knowing as I just log onto the program and listen.

Nacho: Hah, I know right? :) I noticed the balance AFTER the adjustment as well, actually, but like you recognized that it was happening. Secondary colors do well for this kind of thing! Regarding printing, I might have to actually go to Kinko’s or a copy shop and print there. I suspect this is the cheaper way rather than owning a printer that constantly screws up its ink.

Jackie: Oh, that section is not editable, because they contain the carefully-crafted official Groundhog Day Resolution Point List! :-) I can make another version that has that portion blank though for people who want to use this in some other way!

    Thank you!!!!!!!

Again thank you so much. It is just that I have a lot of projects but none that are really business related. That may change latter but it won’t be for another year. I have to finish a lot of stuff! but I keep the wrong thing first. Not wrong exactly – just not the most important things.

I forgot to answer Nacho’s question about “Cooking for Others”:

Why is “cooking for others” a 2024 goal? Isn’t that something that can be done right away? :P

When you’re a nearly-50 single work-at-home freelancer living by yourself, I’m finding that the opportunity to cook for other people is actually hard to come by! I manage it maybe once a month if I’m lucky. Maybe I manage a big blowout once a year. I love food and cooking new things, and it would be really great if I could do it more often for people who also like cooking, that would be really great. I haven’t talked a lot about cooking techniques on the blog, but I do spend a lot of time on this subject! :D
