I got an email from Jorge Luis, letting me know that he’d made a Rainlender skin based on the Compact Calendar. From what I can tell, Rainlender is a desktop calendar app for Mac, Linux, and Windows that appears right on your desktop. I haven’t tried it myself, but it looks like a neat idea.
